frustrated

Hunted a piece of property tonight that the lady doesnt like rifle hunting. So i brought my bow up started out nice it was snowing saw 5 does rite away then all of a sudden a 5 point appeard. He walked within range I took the shot and got him in the shoulder so i got 3 inches of penetration I heard the pop wen the arrow hit and my heart just sunk. If youv read my past posts this season is adding up to be the most frustrating season of my life. I followed his blood in the snow for 40 yrds and retreated cause it got dark. I went back this morning and searched for 6 hours and found nothing

snipe when will my luck change thats the second shoulder shot I have a black cloud following me around

Practice shooting at a deer target. Learn where to and not to shoot. Dont rush it.

I don't want to be judgmental but it really is a sore spot with me as to how many deer bow hunter "cripple" or injure, like you say he might not die but he sure as heck is going to suffer and in the wild the deer may very well die, In late afternoon (to me) it is good practice to only take a "Sure Shot" following a blood trail for 40 yards is really nothing. I think you owe it to yourself and most certainly the deer, to follow it to the end, even if that means going out the next morning and picking up the trail, Again, I do not mean to be judgemental but hay!! lets have some integrity out there. I shouldn't say it, but it is really disgusting. Den

So you looked for 40 yards and left. Are you kidding me?! I shouldn't even have to say anything. Get out there and look for him.

I completely agree! You wound a deer, you look until you can look no more. Then look again. I make sure I exhaust all my forms of tracking and searching before I give up on a deer or not. Even with supposedly only 3 inches of penetration, that's plenty to have killed the deer. Even if it was a shoulder shot. I'm sorry for the way your season has been going but, maybe if you weren't giving up so easy then things might turn around for you. I would suggest instead of going out hunting the next morning, you go out and track down the deer you wounded. At the very least, put in the work required if you're going to hunt and shoot the deer. It's the least you can do for both the deer and yourself. You never know, you may be pleasently surprised and find the deer. If you don't, then you can say you gave a good effort. Then pick yourself up, move on and get back out there working to improve for the next time! Just my .02!

relax guys take a chill pill the deer I wounded previously I searched for for 7 hours. Today I didnt go out this morning I went back there and just got home now I searched for 6 hours and found nothing. Im with you and on the same boat I dont think its fair to not search for a deer cause if your not willing to search then you shouldnt be in that treestand anyway do hop off

i thought you said you looked for 40 yards not 6 hours???which one?

anyway sorry about your bad luck

scribbler444 12-06-2009 09:21 AM

I look lastnight for 40 yards until it got dark it was a poorly placed shot I heard the pop I had a better chance of backing out and coming back to look to give him more time needed if he was going to die

That's a very interesting reply. Slightly perplexing, yet makes sense.

Since that is the buck you know you hit before... and know he's wounded, maybe not mortally... yet, it seems appropriate to focus on him until the job is done.

I agree with halfbaked on this one.

Your call, but something to consider.

Good luck,

Hed be my first to shoot im still hunting hard and am confident I will get another shot at him. When he comes into range which im confident he will then he will be harvested. Ill post pics when this happens

These are POWERFUL statements!

"I will get another shot at him."

"...he will be harvested."

When studying people's language and intentions, I don't often see the word will much. It's more like "I should...", "I'd like to...", "I wish...", "I'm thinking of doing it."

scribbler... I believe you!

Good luck.

isnipe youv read most of my posts this year has been rough the only thing I can do is stay confident and hunt hard and not dwell on the past. If I stay confident and keep my mindset right anything can happen

When your in a one shot seting like we are with a Bow the odds are we all will not hit the sweet spot all the time. Good effort to find it thats all you could do after the shot so ease up on yourself and press on to the next one. I thought I missed my shot Saturday because the Buck was moving but I put him down after all, found him about 70 yards away dead on the spot. My exit wound looked bad but when I rolled him over the shot was 5 inches from the heart. Good Hunting

bowfly 12-09-2009 10:57 AM

i like halfbaked's point, concentrate on him and finish what you started, let that 8 grow up...i think it sounds as though you may be nervous, practicing on a deer target, more confidence in your shooting, will help get rid of the black cloud
