Green pus

1 Attachment(s)
I got a 7point who had an open wound near his right shoulder. There was some greenish pus coming out. While processing I also found an arrow head sort of lodged near the front of the left shoulder along the body. To be honest though, I don't think the two are related since there is no way that an arrow could have gotten from the open wound to the arrow. The open wound looked more like he had been gored by another deer. What mainly has me concerned though is that under the open wound and over the backstrap there was a large cavity inside a layer of fat (more fat here than on the other side) filled with more of this green pus.

Thoughts? Meat good/bad? Cut it out and continue?

Thanks!

if you eat that, then you are a better man than me. I would save the hind quarters, and throw out the rest.

This looks it may describe what's going on (Abscesses):

BTW, there is no odor.

Yeah, I definitely would not touch that deer meat. As much as I hate to waste meat that would be turned into coyote bait!

Throw a whole deer out because of a little puss on some fatty tissue you throw out anyway? that would be a bit of an over reaction IMO.

Wow... Sounds exactly like my brothers deer. Right shoulder was all torn up and broken with little cavitys/holes with this green pus.

Had a similar experience a couple years ago. Don't remember who I talked to, might have been a wildlife officer, but I was told it was gangrene. Cut out around it and eat the rest. I did.

gangreen... common in previous wounds.
