Default Story

Season started this year with my buddy and I having no private land to hunt. Found a nice low pressure public land setup, hunted it hard during bow season and had some chances at some decent bucks, failed to put any down. Get the news from my buddy that he aquired a small patch of private land to hunt for the upcoming shotgun season. The land butts up to a large patch of public land so the thought of a nice buck roaming around was far from my mind. Layed some corn out, hung a stand for his dad and waited for Saturday to come. So the day was here, up at the butt crack of dawn, setup, stop sweating from the climb, waiting for the deer. The morning passed with only a doe in sight. My buddy said he saw a monster out of shooting range, needless to say, he was pretty excited. So the afternoon hunt comes, layed some scent, climbed the tree. With not much going on for the first hour or two, I start hitting the can call. I hear a loud crash directly behind me. I turned to take a peek, all I saw was horns. Heart about jumps out my chest. He was in about the worst place for him to come out...upwind. Me being a smoker, and tend to sneak one while in the stand, the thought turns to, I knew I should of quit smoking. So I hit the can again and he lowers his head and is coming my way. And thats when I notice, he is on the same trail I put a scent line. I knew now he was going to come straight to me. I don't remember even putting the scope on him, all I remember is pulling the trigger and watching him run 15 yards and go down. Then I realize, I've just shot the biggest buck of my life. After 100 text messages and 30 phone calls, I decide I need to put my hands around this monster. Climb out of the tree and walk up to him. Now this is a feeling that no drug could ever reproduce, pure excitment and adrenaline. Don't think I'll ever get a crack at something this big again in my lifetime, but I assure you, I will be out there, trying.

I rough scored him at 150 3/8 gross, 142 3/8 after deductions. 24 inch mains, 5.5 inch thick at the bases.
