Look at this freaken rub!!!
I was out walken around I guess you could call it huntinging enjoying my day out of school...I walked up on 3 does of course no buck's....so I decided to walk along a wood line that I decided in bow season I liked. So I am just walken along really careful peaking into the wood's every now and than I walk 5 0yards and decide to go set in the wood's.So I do I wait 15 minutes and see 4 does walk in front of me after they walk out of sight I see a tree catch my eye.I look harder than I raise my scope and can tell its a rub here are the pictures...
![]() 13 inches around! ![]() ![]() Top of the rub is pretty high off the ground ![]() Notice how the little tree is scaped up to ![]() The little tree that was scaped up as you can see was 23 inches away I think he did this seperate from the big tree but some of my buddy's think he scraped it while rubbing the big tree what do ya'll think How big of a buck do you think did this? |
Couple of things -
1. Take Binoculars with you so you dont have to raise your scope to see - what if it was a person. 2. Tree looks like it was hit by a car or 4 wheeler not a deer - there are no rub markings below or above the main area, usually you will get the g2 or g3 making its own markhigher up the tree and that little limb is attached above the "rub" if a big deer was on that tree that branch would be gone. Sorry |
Does kinda look like a tractor/backhoe tire rub, if it was a deer he is probably a hoss.
|
dang well thanks guys it would of sucked for me to hunt that area the rest of the year and see nothing but does
|
plus this is on a little clearing but all that goes up the clearing ismy uncle on a 4 wheeler so ill ask him about it and see if he knocked it
|
wow thats pretty insane man!
|
Nothing too unusual about a rub on a 4 inch diameter tree. Hopefully go get to see the deer that made it. It does look a little smooth. Rubs on trees that size generally have some gouges, but you never know, maybe the deer had no brow tines.
|
prolly same time, big one to get bigger areas and the small one to get those hard to reach spots , no gouges, i can see in the pics n e ways, prolly a youngen
|
This is a good one....

oh dam WMH thats a rub and a half lol....so yall think this was a young deer or a ATV I aint got a hold of my uncle to ask him yet
|
Doesn't look like a deer made that to me.
|
doesnt look like a deer did that to me either
|
Looks pretty normal to me. I see rubs on trees like that and bigger trees too. Usually see some monster deer in those areas too. The guys from Georgia last year got excited and took pictures of trees like the one you did. They also staked out that area and took home a big buck, bigger than the one on my avatar.
|
That looks like someone ran a strap, cable, chain or something around that tree pulling something.
|
Kuk,
there was a clear rub line running a corn field edge loaded w/ rubs of this size... crazy rubs... saw some awfully big bucks running does in the area. |

I'll raise you!
This is his track, a little washed out from the rain the night before. |
if you look at the oblong shape of it and even the bark below and obove the main area of it you can see that whatever has happened has happened a hell of alot more than once like a tire rub and the heighth is right for a deer rub, I am going to say that it is probably a sign post rub and is rubbed all the time that's why it does'nt have noticable brow tine gouges. I think it has been rubbed alot and probably by a buck that has fairly smooth bases.
|
looks like a chain saw!!!!
|
I think a beaver has his eye on that tree.
|
Rubs
Are you sure you guys don't have any elephants on the property you are hunting......lol

I took a small 9 point buck that was making this rub.
|
I found these 3 rubs about 25 yards apart in some deep woods on my property and I just had to move my stand back by them.
![]() ![]() ![]() Opening day of rifle season, I had a decent 11-pointer come trotting by chasing a doe and I took him at 70 yards. I'm not sure if he was the only one knifing up the tree's in the area so I'm going back out there with my bow on Dec 5th. Here is a pic of the buck I took: ![]() |

First of all why would you go get a tape measure just to measure a rub? Talk about makin the deer smart. If that really is a rub the deer that made it won't be showing himself in front of you during the day.

whats a tape measure hurt?its not like its a scrape that he comes and checks every day |
![]() This buck is within a quarter mile of the rub you think he could be the culperate? |
got a few rubs like this one around, all in the same hardwoods about 50 yards apart. Theres about 50 other small ones on this 100 acre property.

I too found a rub pretty similar in size this this year. Made my heart start pounding just thinking of the size of the buck that left it.
|
I have found rubs like those from deer as well as moose up here.. I once used a whole bottle of Indian Brand Buck Lure to try and get a big buck out. It was a long time ago and that buck came out at night and made a whole new rub. It was unbelievable the size of that rub. So I guess, all I did, was make him mad as he swam across a river right after making the rub.. I never could catch up to him in the day light hours tho...
|
These guys are all haters...I dunno if they all hunt where there's nothin but young bucks or what, but there are plenty of rubs like that up around here in Iowa. That's nothin more than a rub from a nice mature buck. I will say that not all big rubs aren't from big bucks...

maybe a John deere atv! |
I believe the bigger the tree (for the rub) the bigger the deer, but about all it tells me is that a nice deer has been in the area, hopefully it will be there when I am, I also like to look for tracks, because I also believe a big track is a big deer, I know this is not always true but for the most part it is, I like to get out after a good snow and see what is walking around, we are suspose to get a good dump Wed. I am muzzleloading hunting and need all the help I can get. Den
some nice rubs, on 4/5 inch trees ![]() I really like to see this ![]() He is a beauty!! ![]() |
Idk if thats a rub or not...but if it is you gotta monster runnin around
