Is it a monster?

Usually every year I'll find a rub that just makes me say wow here in Southwest Virginia. I'm sure in other states a rub like this is common, but I think this might be a monster. Anyways you guys give me your opinion on how big you think this buck might be.

not sure...but you should hunt the area for sheds in the spring!

I'm going to be hunting for that rack this evening....theres about 6 other tree rubs in that area. Hopefully he'll walk out in front of my 30-06 and give me an easy broadside shot.

Around here, rubs like that look like they're made on cedar.

As for a large buck? Hard to say, but I'm not seeing those
deep cuts you often see on some trees. They are from the
spurs and junk at the base of each antler often seen on the
larger/older deer. I usually look for those deep cuts when
looking at a single rub, that and the height.

I wouldn't mind hunting in that area to see what's around!

Good luck hunting and stay safe out there! Have fun too!!

What is the diameter of the tree? Hard to tell without some reference for size.

Its a big buck I guarantee that

ummmm...my advice is to hunt that area and also get those sheds out with a wheelbarrow :D

I would say that that is a big buck. Hard to tell how big the tree actually is but for a buck to shred a tree that large it has to be a big bodied deer indicating a mature buck. i would hunt that area for sure. good luck

In my experience I would say that is a good size buck that made the rub. The size of the tree says one thing but, look at the height of the rub also. It's pretty torn up down low but, if you look towards the top of the pic you can see there is definately some gouges from rubbing up high to which means he probably has atleast some decent height to the rack. Like others have said, I would definately pick a spot in the area to set up. Good luck!
