Xchoke with buckshot
 

I originally had a brain fart and was out this past off season, right after Spring turkey hunting just shooting with the fellows, and forgot to remove the x choke. No problems, but noticed awesome grouping with 3" 000 buckshot and am planing on using it for my shotgun deer hunting. Since the choke was set up for Heavy shot, my choke is in fine shape. My question is my opportunities of messing up either my choke, or more a dangerous situation of having a catastophic incident if I continue using it for buck hunting with 3" magnim 000 buck.:confused0024:

Any advice? In all years hunting with the scatter gun, I have always used the factory modified choke and a very inconsistant shot pattern.

Any input will be appreciated.

How about not use buckshot for deer?? IMO buckshot is unethical..Why not use a rifle or a slug?

In my county, and season reg's its only muzzleloader, and buckshot for firearms. No rifles or slug allowed.

i agree buckshot sould be illegal to hunt with, in my opinion.

Ah yes, buckshot is unethical....................NOT!!! Ignorance is bliss.

Used correctly it works just fine. Limit your range to 50 yds and less, assuming the majority of pellets are in an 8" circle, and put the hammer down. I will say that buckshot does not leave a great blood trail and most pellets will not pass through. It's the hunter that makes the difference in recovering the deer.

Any load can be used unethically. Given your situation, I'd go with a muzzleloader if you have one.

I think that if you contacted the manufacturer of your shotgun they would tell you that the x-full choke is safe to use. I used full choke for many years and didn't have any problems. Just stay within a distance that puts a number of shot in a 15 inch circle and you should be ok, and I would stay within 50 yards regardless.

It's safe, don't worry about it. I shoot 00B out of a (turkey-choke) extra full too. If it didn't blow the choke tube out of the gun the first shot, you're alright.

I will also agree that you are safe using the extra full choke tube. I also use extra full. Now to the buckshot issue. Obviously the people against it have never used it. Under 50 yards it is very lethal. One of you please write the Virginia Game Commission and tell them how unethical buckshot is and that it should be outlawed immediatley.
