He did EVERYTHING wrong
 

Well he did! According to all the deer experts. Saturday my 8 year old was bugging to me let him set in a stand by himself. So i finally gave in and put him in a ladder stand on the edge of a field. I followed him up the ladder and belted him in good. I have a hss for him. So after some last minute instruction I left him up there with a large assortment of calls he brought with him. I went to a stand on the other side of the field so I could watch him while hunting to. The wind was wrong for his stand and i figured it would help me even. Well 30 minutes into it he grabs his rattling horns and starts beating them together. All the sudden a real nice 10 runs out right under his stand. He was waving and pointing when it saw him and took off. Pointing his grunt call in the air he sounded more like a duck than a buck but once again a nice buck came to him. This went on all night while I could'nt call in anything. Still a good night watching him have fun. Here's the only pic he got of a deer that came in behind him after using the can call

Id be tryin to git a shot with a rifle instead of a CAMERA!!!!!!

Kid's living a charmed life and don't even know it! At least we can see what his nerves were going through when he snapped that picture. LOL!

You guys had a lot of fun out there. My mother was scared when my dad started to teach me at a young age how to shoot a rifle. By the time I was 10, I was about a seasoned pro. LOL! Congrat's on watching your son have a good time by doing all the wrong things!... or wait, maybe all the right things? We'll have to wait and read his book when it comes out!

Cool! That ought to keep him excited about hunting. He'll probably spend his allowance on deer calls now.

I love the fact that most so-called deer experts think he did everything wrong. And what happened? - An 8 year old boy had deer coming right to him. Maybe I should reread this thread more closely and practice this style :s1:.

An experience like that will make a kid a hunter the rest of his life. It is great to hear stories about younger kids having fun in the outdoors. That's what it's all about. Shooting a mature buck is just icing on the cake. Best of luck to you and your son. Next time you better sit him with you since you know who has all the luck now!

That's hilarious! I'm sure you'll have a hunting partner for life after that experience.

If that isn't a two man ladder stand I'd make sure I was in a climber about 15yds from him next hunt.
