Not many deer?
I have been in the woods numerous times and have seen NO Deer at all. I then started doing a little research to find out if the Deer population in Southwest Virginia had decreased when I came across this article.
http://www.rmef.org/NewsandMedia/New...irginiaElk.htm Could introducing a huntable Elk population affect the Deer population enough as to acount for me not seeing any Deer? |
Most of my time in the woods when I'm after deer is spent actually scouting. Scouting tells me many things:
*Where deer are bedding *Where deer are feeding *Favorable watering holes *Where the trails are *Size of the animals and possible sex by the tracks *Areas of scraping activity *Areas of rubbing activity and about what are the best areas to put up an evening or morning stand. I say this because even with deer numbers down, if that is the case, you still can locate them and decide a plan to hunt them after you have scouted. I recommend middle of the day scouting and/or placing stands in areas where you can have a very good view. It may not be the ideal stand to kill something from, but to see what the deer traffic is like in that area. Good luck! iSnipe |
