we have the same problem here at my house. 2 weeks ago a friend watched a guy walk right out of my hunting property with his bow. one guy that lives nearby is complaining to me about finding arrows in his yard and blaiming me because i'm the only one that bow hunts there. last week another friend was in his treestand on ajoining property and had a button buck come from my hunting spot ,it walked up about 20ft from the tree he was in and laid down and died from being gut shot with a arrow. i've been to the treespassers house twice this season and he denies being there. the warden says i must catch him and hold him before he will do anything. i'm about ready to dig a hole for him. there is a buck horny massive trees all across the property and this guy has him only moving at night from all the traffic in his area. it sucks.

Call the game warden and have them set the fake deer up for a few days off and on before, during, and after season. Once people realize the wardens are trying to trap them the poaching will fall off considerably. If you dont let the wardens know where these trouble spots are they cant really do anything about it. Call your local warden and be proactive. That will be an immediate deterrent. The planting of some vegetation to grow a natural fence will take time, so do both.

I would plow a strip inside the fence or as close to the road as possible and plant a combination of tall grasses and a few rows of corn. Then leave the corn and plow in whats left next year and plant trees behind the grass. Once the grass is established it will grow high and hide those deer by mid summer and late into the winter. This will be the fastest easiest way to discourage road hunters, without spending all your time patrolling and being frustrated anyway because people doing that are certainly not going to do it when you're there. If you find deer abandoned it may be because someone was interupted and are afraid to come back for that deer. I have caught folks hunting meat for their families before, and because I was decent about it and let them have that deer without calling the law they at least use the meat. Plus I make it clear that it better not happen again on my land or both incidents will be reported. I have never caught a repeat offender and once word spreads I'm more likely not to. It also doesn't hurt to spread the word that you use camera's for watching poacher activity and welcome game officials to set decoys in the area. But the number one thing is make them hard to see from the road.

deer sir, if you own the road goin in, put up a sign sayin you are takin pictures of poachers and callin in, this will eliminate 1/2......and then make friends with the dnr and have him over fer lunch...put out a couple of cams hidden to take pics of cars drivin by, the poachers will be there more often than others will be, especially at nite. then you can give your dnr a reasonable time to come by and catch these fuggers!!!! the more good evidence you come up with, i e pics , times etc...the easier it is fer the dnr..., who has some 1 million acres to cover by himself....to bust em'
:busted:

OR

do none of this and keep quiet and do as said in a previous statement and tell the dnr u got a few and to come set up a decoy...man get it on vid cause we all, i hate to speak for everyone but o well...love to see those fuggers et caught!!

OR

if dnr cant come this year..set up your own decoys to make them think the dnr is there!!!! jus a thought

To start with I need to correct you on your phrase ( people that see nice deer and shoot them) its POACHERS that are shooting your deer. Contact your local DNR and try to set up a sting. Be prepaired because you never how who they might catch.

how about a sign that 10x10 that states poachers will be shot on sight?
also put a decoy out there with trail cams.
