It's all relative.....shoot, growing up hunting in upstate NY most young guys would shoot whatever came along....that's just the way it was. We didn't have the luxury to be picky. That still holds true today in many parts of the country.

It shouldn't be about the size of the deer, it should be about the overall experience of the hunt.

well would just like to add a little not to long ago i was a young hunter and have recently introduced young kids into hunting and for the button buck that was harvested by the young hunter congrats who cares it was a button buck their gonna get shot if your doing your deer managment but when i take children out for their first hunt i let them take whatever deer they want or the most comfertable shot for them then we can work on deer managment make it fun while teaching if we dont keep children in the woods this sport will be no more

My opinoin is I hunt to fill the freezer PERIOD a big deer is good but if a little buttonhead steps out he is good to young one are good eating to. I have only been hunting for 3 years this is my 4th year. I know what it is like to get flack from my hunting not wanting to get up in the we hours when nothing is moving till 10 am where I hunted not doing the same as my husband has and all the things you need to learn on your own. I can kill a skin a deer and process it but not all can I am not going to sit there and tell anyone they need to do as I do. Not everyone can. I am a 50 yer old female and I did this because it would help other when they were not able to or didn't know how, But to berash some for killing a small deer or a female or opne that is not big horned I am sorry this is not good for any hunter to do. I rather teach and then maybe they would be a better hunter tell what I have learned maybe it could help them. wqhat works in one place doesn't mean it will work for everyone. I have babled enough.

I too believe one should shoot whatever he or she wants and be happy about it. As long as the meat isn't being wasted, who cares?

Unfortunately, the big money, advertising, and propaganda are all in cahoots behind "big bucks only" mentality. Big money has led to a filtered message in media that it's only acceptable to shoot big bucks. That will only get worse, not better.

Bingo. This is the mindset of most hunters and we shouldn't feel guilty about it, either. Your approach is perfectly legit. I'd love to see some stories in the media and on television about hunters hunting this way! What a refreshing change that would be.

in this day and age with our dwindling numbers and the antihunters growing by the day anybody who criticizes anybody who has harvested any animal legally ought to have his head examined.we need all the new hunters we can get.

Thank you Fork for posting that. This is my first year bow hunting, and I know I am bound to have some mishaps here and there as the years go by. But my biggest concern is just making a clean kill, on the first deer I shoot at. I am sure many new hunters feel this way as well.

I'm sure this is a new one...I'm up in my stand today. ready to hunt with my 870 and slugs..only to realize my turkey choke is still in the end of the barrel..
