Has Anyone Seen Any Fawns Yet?

Was curious to see if anyone has noticed any small fawns running around yet? I love watching the little guys running around in the fields around my Grandpa' s property.

Actually, I had one follow me around my uncle' s house. He' s a game warden and every year somebody always end' s up finding a fawn in the tall grass and assume it' s been abandon and they drop it off at my uncles house. He takes care of them until their about 6-12mo' s old and then they usually just seem to wonder off in the woods around his house.

Not a good future for the deer, especially since they have lost their natural fear of humans.

He' s told his neighbors not to touch the deer, even if the doe is no where around. Just b/c the fawn was alone does not mean it' s been abandoned.

He actually had one guy (a preacher) that ran over a fawn with his bush hog. The fawn was not harmed, but he brought it over to my uncle' s house anyway. My uncle will bottle feed them until they start eatin grass and stuff around the house and that' s when they start to wonder off on thier own.

Last time I was there, he had a family of opossums that he confiscated from a lady that had rasied them from babies. I guess it' s illegal to raise indegenis (sp?)animals in your possesion. Anyway, they were almost tame, you could actually handle them and hand feed them. This lady treated them like house cat' s, I' ve never seen a opossum that was so white and smelled like Hartz dog shampoo!

RE: Has Anyone Seen Any Fawns Yet?

As noted in the Deer Attack forum, I ran into a doe and a fawn on Mother' s Day weekend. I was out for a hike geocaching, a game played with a GPS (see www.geocaching.com for details). In a field, we spotted a doe and her fawn. It looked to me like the fawn was still fairly young. Mom ran away (white flag and all) but the fawn just trotted behind. It’s a busy area outside Kanata and the deer are quite used to people. They stopped when they were a safe distance then slowly trotted away.

Going back to the car I rounded a tree and ran smack into the doe. She was only ten yards away and I was in plain view (moving) and she stood perfectly still. I knew the fawn was around and slowly looked around to make sure I wasn’t near it. As I passed the doe and continued to the car, I noticed the fawn laying down under a tree behind her.

It was a really cool experience that I' ll never forget.

I' ve been seeing pregnant does, but no fawns yet.
Last year I came up on a doe and a fawn that couldn' t have been more than an hour or so old. It was still soaking wet, and the mom was nudging it with her nose trying to get it to stand up. It finally got up and wobbled around for awhile before very shakily following mom into the trees. One of the coolest things I' ve ever seen! One of those moments when I understood what the words " absolute awe" really meant!:)

To many dead along the highway. Pregnant doe gets hit and knocks them right out. Not a pleasant site.

While I am here can anyone tell me if this is how you post your image? I have been loking in the help section and it isn' t helping!!!!!!!!!!

They' re still being kept well hidden by the does up here. Usually around the middle-end of June they' ll be feeding in the clover field.
