Need advice on cold weather outerwear..bibs & parka

Folks,

I'm trying to get advice on some good quality outerwear (Parka & Bibs). It's got to be good for very cold weather and be waterproof. What are the best items out there that work in these categories?

Thanks,

John

I’m not sure about how possible some of the things you mention would be, but there is one setting that may interest you, if you haven’t seen it already

The best clothing for really cold weather isn't waterproof. (There ain't no water in really cold weather). Anything that doesn't breathe (including goretex) will allow moisture to build up and you'll get cold. Look for a windproof shell with plenty of room for fleece or wool insulation underneath. You should be able to open it up to regulate temperature and moisture. The key to staying warm is staying dry.

Johnny,

Check out the Coldfront Jacket from Sitka Gear along with the Dutch Oven. I am not sure how cold you are going, but in additional to these three pieces you will be layering of course.

Course if you have some King of the Mountain Gear, the Coldfront will be a good piece to go over it to keep it dry

Try the Arctic Shield that was mentioned in an earlier post. It has patented Retain which keeps you both warm and dry without the bulk and weight of many other garments!
