i lived and hunted in the MS delta (bolivar co, NE MS) for the past 3yrs. The rut usually winds down the first week of Jan. In my experience mid to late Dec. is the peak of the rut. But if Winston Co. is in south MS, it very well could be Jan.

I live in Winston County MS and the rut does not start until around Christmas and winds down about mid January. Most of the heavy rubbing and scrapping activity starts about the second weekend of Christmas and then the week of Christmas you start seeing chasing. About the middle of January most of the does have been breed, and you still see the bucks doing a lot of roaming after that looking for more does that may not have been breed the first time around. We have a pile of does here so a lot of them do not get breed the first go around.
