I think the answer to the thread question is Texas and then Pa. Texas is #1 for sure.

id like to hunt more states but south texas is definitly reasonable. the management is serious down there. and like i said, id like to hunt other states so im probably biased. the hill country of south central texas is loaded with average deer. but deep south texas, watch out now!

I dont think so. Texas has tons of deer but the state is absolutely huge. Could be mistaken though.

As for Pa, wasnt even top before the 40-50% reduction we just went through. We have in the neighborhood of 800k owdd.

Mississippi, last Id seen a few years ago had 1,750,000. Thats over double.

Several states similar in size to Pa have higher than 800k owdd. That means higher deer densities. Alabama is also estimated at over 1.75 million. They are similar in size to Pa, only slightly larger at 50k square miles compared to 46+ for Pa.

The highest wmu deer densities in Pa are slightly less than 25 owdpsm according to the game commission annual reports. A large portion portion of the state has around 20 dpsm and another large portion has less than 10 dpsm. Pretty modest considering many states including WV. Wi, SC, Ga, etc etc. have some areas in the state with 30 to 50+ dpsm, some even as many as 80+!!

Not sure who is the highest. I think a good bet would be Miss. or Alabama

Yes it is way off. Densities in many of the regions of some states Ive checked do not match the data from their respective management agencies websites.

You Pa. guys notice that the least populated area on the map is unit 5c. And thats the unit PGC gave out the most doe tags LOL. I agree with the WV numbers. They are even higher then 45 in lots of ares in WV . Around where I hunt it is more like 60 to 75 psm. Always see a average of 40 deer every day I hunt.
