if the deer is running, he won't care if their is bait/attractant there...however, a quick loud "HEY!!!" may stop him...in conditions where deer are maybe walking by, my brother swears on meowing like a cat...it makes me laugh like hell, but i have gotten a great number of deer this way

most times i give them the ole "baughhhh" and it works

Yelling "Stop you stupid deer" works as good as anything.
