Look at this target... Is this wind or trigger pull?
 

Look at this target for me and give me some insight. My .270 Remington 700 is dead on from 100 yards. The shots on the target you see are from 179+ yards with a 12 mph wind. My question is does this look like a wind issue, or a tight trigger? Tight trigger meaning it requires a little more pull on the trigger and it is causing the gun to shift right on me.

By no means an expert, but if the wind would have the same impact on all your shots then I would think your grouping would be a little tighter. Then again do you have a problem with a tight trigger at 100 yards?

Still not bad for 179 yards though... Wind was varying on each shot. I am dead center at 100... I guess I just had some jitters.

If you're having no prob's at 100 yards, then I'd say it's not a trigger issue. Also, regardless of the lbs. of trigger pull, IMO you shouldn't be getting shots pulled off to one side because a good trigger pull is straight back inline with the gun all the way back to the stock.

You also didn't specify which direction the wind was coming from, but by your picture I'm assuming from the left side. LOL!

If you are shooting good groups at 100 yards, your 200 yard shoots shouldn't be that bad either, so I'm thinking wind.

Yes, wind was blowing from left to right.

I'm thinking your extending your trigger finger too far over the trigger { on or near the first crease at the top knuckle }. Get it more to the tip, and see what happens.

I think I've found my answer... Looking at the chart below. at 150+ yards, the drift is 1.5"

IMO, the wind would need to be blowing a lot harder than that to affect the POI at anything less than 200 yards. If it was a muzzleloader, maybe. But with the velocities of a centerfire rifle, I don't see a 12 MPH wind blowing your group at all.

1.5" is exactly what I measured on my target too.

Either way, I will go back on a non-windy day and shoot a few more. I made a shot two years ago from 189 yards away and I dropped him like a fly.
