i think for a lot of guys they really do care more about the gear then just getting out and nature and going after it.

i couldn't agree with you more. hey i'm all for the kill but i just enjoy getting out there. beats sitting in front of a computer all day at work . . .just like i'm doing right now wishing i was hunting instead of pretending to work and hanging out in the hunting forums

I couldn't agree more. To me hunting is about de-stressing and enjoying my time in the woods. My job is very high stress so hunting helps me keep my sanity. There's nobody in the woods constantly calling my name. Going high tech just over complicates things in my opinion. Plenty of deer were being killed back in the day. To me, bringing home a deer is just icing on the cake (and that includes a doe). But to each their own.

exactly why I went to ML hunting. Had to slow down and be simple.

I have been in clubs the last couple of years, taken a few nice ones from a box stand sittin in a dirt road over corn. But I forgot what I was there for. Sure that is a good way to get a decent deer, but I miss being up a tree far from the roads, seeing all sorts of wildlife, getting that seclusion. Needless to say this year, its back to the basics, no club dues and griping club members, just hunting small farms from a climbing stand, right by myself........

Have to agree with this generally. I limit myself to two gadgets: a headlamp and b*tt out tool in a fanny pack. They make field dressing easier. Other than that, I put in that fanny pack an ink pen for filling out the tag, a knife, some extra shells and a rope for dragging.

Yep keep it simple ben doing this since "53" during rifle season I take a couple good cigars (only time I smoke) and when things get a little slow I light 1 up an relax for an hour or so. Brings them bucks in too.
