you hunt where the cover is...i have arrowed 3 deer out of a lean up i have that is 10' tall...back cover is much more important than tree cover...i normally hunt 20' up with bow or gun although i have a stand thats about 30 feet...THERE IS NO PERFECT HEIGHT!

Default just my opinion

i like to go about 30 ft for bow hunting with my climber and i use a 25 ft ladder stand for gun and i have a blind i use with gun season so it just depends on the spot

12 -20 is the perfect height too low and you will spook or be seen to high and it just makes your shot more difficult. that is just my opinion.

I guess I let the situation dictate how high I hunt. I hunt anywhere from on the ground to up to 25 ft or so.

I hunt with archery equipment and muzzeloaders and like to get 15-25 feet up. The first deer I killed with bow and arrow was from a little 10 ft ladder stand. I think that going to the stand clean and being able to sit still and quiet is more important than stand height.

last year while bear hunting I was 10 ft, acorns started to drop and had deer under me for 3 days. As long as the surronding cover permits 8 feet can work, just be still.
