.308 ammo
 

i just got a browning bar shorttrac .308, its a great gun, any one have any suggestions on hats a good brand of ammo to use to hunt for deer in upstae ny i like 150 or 165 grain any suggestions.

Wow, there are SOOOOO many choices out there, lol. The .308Win is a very popular caliber, and it's hard to find a bullet that just flat out sucks. However, every barrel is different. In my Mossberg, I shot Remington CorLokt 150gr for years. Two years ago I switched to Federal Premium Sierra GameKings in 165gr. Quite a bit more kick than what I was familiar with, but they are great rounds.

Whenever I buy a new gun, be it rifle, pistol, shotgun...I buy 3-4 different brands of ammo, go to the range and let the gun tell me what it shoots best...Even with a .22 the accuracy difference is incredible between brands of ammo...

What is avaliable locally??? As mentioned, a .308 is very popular and all the major ammo companies load for it...Any of the 150-165gr bullets are comstructed for deer...

Definitely the best shooting out there imop, other than hand loading and finding out what yer gun really likes ! or better yet "tune your load to your rifle"

I shoot the winchester supreme balistic silvertip in a 150gr from my Howa 1500 .308. They are awesome.

I shoot the winchester 150 grain power points in my browning. BTW great rifle choice!

I guess a better question would be is any one brand really better than any other
