Anyone ever freeze apples to use later in the fall / winter?

I've never frozen apples or pears, but I did freeze hundreds of persimmons one year. They ate them up, even though some were a little mushy. Deer prefer pears that are on the verge of rotting, so even though they be mushy, the deer should still eat them up.
