New feeder finished!
Finished my 55 gal feeder today. Should pay for itself in saved corn in a couple years. Camo needs some work, but atleast I got the spots starting to rust covered up! I doubt paint will make this big barrel in the sky invisible anyway. Now just need to put it in the woods and filler up!

looks nice. You have a pool table in your garage?

Watch for moisture in the corn. We tried timed feeders for awhile and it was continuously molding and being a problem. I said next time I put one out I was going to get one of those house closet moisture traps and putting it in with the corn. Seems like it would work. In cooler/dryer climates it might not be a problem.

Timbercruiser, did you use a funnel in the bottom of the barrel?
I was hoping that would keep me from having moldy corn problems. |
nice feeder .

It sure must be nice to place out 55 gallons of corn or what ever, sit over it for an hour and have your buck down....geesh...It does look great though, great job...

Yes we had funnels built inside the 55 gallon drums. Due to the moisture problem we finally abandoned the drums as feeders. I think the moisture collection bags would help a lot.

We've almost completely given up on these types of feeders. The bears knock them over and destroy them within a day of being set up. That metal drum would probably hold up a lot better than others, but it would still be on the ground and the metal legs would get bent. That's just our experience; maybe you don't have bear problems. Otherwise that is a very nice feeder you've built.
