shoot or not

I'm in love with this 3 yr old. He is not the biggest buck I have on camera this year, but there is just something about him that does it for me. I've killed bigger bucks, and we practice good qdm. What do ya'll think I know he will look better nexr year but I think he looks good now.

boilermaker85 08-12-2009 08:54 AM

Hell no

:fighting0007:Are you serious i definately would not! Until it turns broadside!lol

basserman 08-12-2009 08:56 AM

your the one that needs to be happy and satisfied bud. Do what you think is best

Rodngun 08-12-2009 09:00 AM

Wish I could see his back and or stomach. The calls yours.

Smoknya 08-12-2009 09:19 AM

I'll agree with basserman do what makes you happy man. If you let him walk he could be alot bigger next year or he's got the chance to be killed by another hunter in the area.

Western MA Hunter 08-12-2009 09:48 AM

i'd stick him...

bow tek 08-12-2009 10:18 AM

How many of you true trophy hunters would shoot. Here is a pic of an 8 that is running with him, but I like first buck better.

here is a picture of my biggest 8

Rodngun 08-12-2009 10:56 AM

I'm 39 years old and have taken my fair share of of good bucks. I think in my mind a trophy is what the individual makes it. I'm talking about all the guys who claim never shoo buck before 4 1/2. Not trying to start a argument by any means

bearklr 08-12-2009 11:49 AM

Do what I always do. Get it stuck in you rmind that your are NOT going to shoot that deer no matter what! because you know there are monsters in the area and he should grow another year. Then you'll be GUARANTEED to see him opening morning at which point you'll say to yourself. "Well, if I don't shoot him someone else will...and he does look aweful nice standing there broadside"...and WHACK...meat in the freezer. Works everytime LOL.

hossdaniels 08-12-2009 12:16 PM

3.5yr is fair game to me. 2.5yr is off the table, besides they get sort of "gun shy" of daytime by 3.5 yrs old anyway. If I had the chance, I'd take him.

My biggest deer is only 134"(decent for NC). He would fit good with the company in my house! If I already had a wall full of 160"ers I'd let him walk.

BUT its your decision, if its a trophy to you take it.

driftrider 08-12-2009 02:32 PM

I'd drop him like a hot box of rocks. Wouldn't think twice about it. The areas I hunt I just don't see bucks like that, I think because if road poachers. There are gobs of does walking around, but bucks bigger than a small basket 6 pointer are pretty scarce. That deer has a good sized rack (it'd be the biggest buck I'd ever shot, BTW), and it's not a crusty old deer with stinky showleather for meat either. Best of both worlds.

Mike

salukipv1 08-12-2009 03:00 PM

he's very symetrical, few deductions...

though 1 more year he might be a giant, if you know he's gonna not get killed and be on your property next year, why would ya?

stubblejumper 08-12-2009 06:22 PM

You are the only one that can make that decision, since it is you that must be satisfied with your choice.Personally,in my hunting area,I would not give him a second look, but I don't hunt in Kentucky.

MDS184122577 08-12-2009 06:35 PM

If the buck has some sort of meaning to you(which they all should) then i would definitely take the shot at him. The memory you will have of deciding to take him or not will be a good one to listen to while you are showing your mount to your buddies!!!

Good Luck

penninside08 08-12-2009 08:08 PM

if i was you and i had a lot of land, not much hunting pressure, and a good amount of good bucks (which it should if it is QDM)....let him walk for another year or two and take the other 8 point or another good buck

gregrn43 08-12-2009 08:18 PM

The call is yours. Where I hunt in Arkansas he is a shooter. When I take my annually trip to Ohio hmmmmmmm would depend on my blood pressure lol.

wis_bow_huntr 08-13-2009 02:58 AM

Hey thats what I was going to say!! Cheater lol.....

Imho, boom.

RyanJ17059 08-13-2009 05:25 AM

If you don't shoot that monster, I'm going to force you to hunt PA for a few seasons until you appreciate what you have there! :p

cleveland5 08-13-2009 05:31 AM

i'd take 'em. looks like i good sized buck with a good rack... beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if that buck is a beaut to you then go right ahead and drop him!
good luck

omegasmoke 08-13-2009 08:44 AM

Let him walk. He looks a bit smaller than your one on the wall. Next year you can stick him hopefully and you'll better your biggest. Isn't that what its all about. If you feel safe about no one else taking him, let him grow.

Hunting Kuk 08-13-2009 09:34 AM

What buck age class are you managing for? If you are managing for 3 1/2 then take him. If it will make you happy then take him. If you are going to look at his mount for the rest of your life and wonder what he would have looked like next year, then don't take him.

Ed McDonald 08-15-2009 03:36 PM

I would take the shot . It's a larger racked buck than any that I have ever had in my sights .

appleater25 08-16-2009 05:29 PM

He'd be goin' down here.

mconwa951 08-17-2009 08:14 AM

Ithink you should make the call if there are bigger bucks in the area and this deer stands a chance of making it to the next season on your property then let him roam for a nother year and you will love him more next year. If he is the best deer you are seeing and this is your only spot to go then stick him.

rustynobles 08-17-2009 04:37 PM

seriously? smoke him and then wonder. if you don't somebody else will.
