Best sabot slug
I just purchased a new pro hunter 12 Ga. rifled slug barrel and i was wondering what do you guys think is the one of the best slugs out.
|
Without a doubt Federal Barnes Expander 12 ga. 2-3/4 in. 3/4 oz. slugs!! I tried many different slugs and this one outperformed them all HANDS DOWN! I can group 2 inches at 100 yards with open sights...if I had a scope i'm sure these would be good for 150 yards...possibly better...give um a shot!!

Here we go again.
For the thousanth time. Everyone and their brother can tell you what works good out of their gun/barrel. Even if you have the same set up THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE SAME AMMO WILL AUTOMATICALLY GIVE THE SAME RESULTS. It's trial and error, trial and error, trial and error until you find your own little perfect spot. Or arrive at a place that is acceptable to you. |
My inlaws swear by Lightfields....
I have had great luck w/ Winchester Partition Golds... I stocked up before they were discontinued. |
Like Uncle Matt said, every gun shoots different with even with the same ammo. That said I tried the Remington copper sabots and the worked just fine, tight groups and and graet knock down power. I did pick up some Hornady SST's to try out as they are cheaper. Plan on putting a few down the barrel in the near future...

not to hijack your thread but has anyone ever used the remington accu tip sabots?I was thinking about trying them but was looking to see if there was any problems with them first.
|
I have tried the Remington accu-tip on targets they shoot great at 118 yards, this is with a Savage 210 slug gun never shot a deer with a slug tho, but why wouldn't they work.

my remington 870 shoots the accutips great also.ive never shot anything with it yet.at least give them a try.

every shotgun, from brand to brand, to even from the same brand all like different slugs, try as many as you can

I shoot sabot slugs frequently and can say that yes, every barrel has its own likes and dislikes. But generally speaking, your pro-hunter barrel is a 1:28 twist. the faster twist rates usually like smaller diameter, lighter, faster sabots. Such as the remmy core lokt's hornady sst's, partition golds and the list goes on. Whereas barrels such has a Hastings barrel boasting a 1:34 twist rate, they usually will fair best with heavier, close to bore size saboted projectiles not exceeding 1700-1800 fps. velocities. buckhammers, lightfields (hybred elites are extremely accurate out of my hastings), sometimes copper solids, some brenneke's and the list goes on. key point is that they are near bore size, and in the 1500 fps-1800 fps range for slower twist barrels
