Moon phase

Where can I find some info on moon phase? Planning a trip and I want to time it as best I can.

Check my sig line, www.outdoorlinker.com there is a gadget that continuously updates the moon phases each day.

Also, you will find a link under the outdoor resources column for sunrise/sunset and moondata where you can enter your location and the time you will be there to get moon rise, moon set as well moon transit data in addition to sunrise and sunset.

Hope this helps, and good luck

After 10 years of whiteail research, and just starting another 3 year research project; and guiding whitetail hunterrs since 1989, I can tell you at least two things.

1. The phase of the moon does not dictate when peak rut will occur - so dont worry about it.

2. In at least 2 studies I know of, deer were most active during daylight hours when the moon was in the Full or Last Quarter Phase, and that includes trophy class bucks.

BUT - the effects of the moon on deer behavior can be, and regularly are, overridden by the amount of cloud cover, the temperature, storms, forage availability, the rut, hunting pressure, human behavior, predarory behavior and preccipitation (which you cannot predict much ahead of time). In short - almost anything can override the nmoon. So - don't worry about the moon.

If you want to hunt when bucks act stupid and my be active all day long, hunt the 2-3 weeks when most of the does are in estrus (Google Peak Whitetal Rut, to find out when the rut occurs in your area, or call the state deer researcher and ask them).

If you wnt to hunt when bucks are the most predictable (as to when and where they move), hunt the 2-3 weeks before peak breeding, which is during peak scraping.

God bless,

Would love to see how that coincides with high temps especially in the north.

In my experince if we get high day time temps in a waxing stage full moon the day time movement of deer decreases remarkably.

I own one of those Timex hunting watches. They work off the moon phases and predict feeding times. Not saying it works all the time, but it has been right on enough occasions that i keep using it!

my favorite phase of the moon, during rifle season, is just after new moon, when the crescent is a very thin line, almost as if drawn with a very fine point pen. Also, on days were the moon is noticeably out well on into the day, regardless of the phase.

What model is the watch? I tried a little to find a timex watch that predicted feeding times and coulndt find anything. Found a casio that told moon phases and what not.

Moon phase? I just go hunting when my wife lets me. Seems to be working for me, I get to hunt and sleep in the bed. :hit:

Man, wish I could hunt in my bed. ;);)
