I wear mine all the time, but my hard headed father refuses to wear one. He says he is only twelve feet up and he has never fallen in all the years he has hunted. I will say this for him though, if he is tired or if he feels himself nodding off he will immediately get out of the stand and sit at the base of it. I still think he should wear one.

I do not wear one going nto a ladder stand. I am spending the money for a more comfortable vest type this year. I had a ladder stand seat strap snap because it was not maintained correectly, and i trusted the owner. it was a wild ride coming down 15 feet. Stupid. Horton fixed my Xbow quickly, my bruises and sore bones took forever to mend.

I agree ,everyone should wear a safety harness. In my hunting club if you dont wear a safety harness you will get kicked out of the club.

I hook in when I step onto the climber and unclip when I'm ready to step off after the hunt is done....every time.

I don't climb often since I'm uncomfortable with heights, but when I do I wear a full body vest style safety harness, even with ladder stands. I would say that roughly half of the other hunters I see up trees do not wear one.

1 in 4? half? where are you guys hunting?

less than 10% for sure, not sure where the real number lies though, I wouldn't be surprised if it was even less than 1%.

Default Safety Belt

I was a lineman for 20+ years and felt safe without a safety while hunting in stands up to 50',most of the time I am in a climber about 30-35' up.While surfing the internet about hunting I read many articles about people falling and being crippled for life.I remarried when I was 42 and had a son at 43 and felt I owned to to my son and wife to take care of myself.I never go in a treestand now without a safety.Twice I have forgotten my safey and I sat on the ground.I have lost family and friends in vehicle accidents because they were to dumb/hardheaded to wear a seltbelt.I see wearing a safety and seatbelt about the same,we never know when it is going to happen or if it will ever happen to us but I like walking upright and not rolling around in a wheelchair. If not yourself at least have respect for your loved ones and family who would have to care for you if you feel and were crippled or dead.
