2008 bow buck pics/mount pics

Have had these pics for a while, just now posting them.

I liked the mount aesthetically, but I believe I lost neck and chest size, via cape trimming...big time turn off because it was a mature buck (field dressed 220lbs)..should have measured before hand when trying a new taxi!! Live and learn!

129 7/8" P&Y

i agree but awesome buck nonetheless

Definitely an awesome buck!!! Is it just me or does his neck look thinner for the mount than it did when you took him?

Beautiful buck. The form doesn't do him justice, the width turned into length when he put a large cape on a smaller form. Still, awesome buck.

Western MA Hunter 07-17-2009 04:49 AM

great buck, but you are right on that... too bad he didn't get that swell in his neck...
I wonder if he mixed capes up w/ another's deer? Anyway, he is a pig of a deer!!! Congrats!

Thats a shame about the mount but it is still a really nice buck. Congratulations

Gotta agree. Your taxi dropped the ball. Now way should he have used a doe form for that buck even if the capping was wrong. If that was an issue, he should have hasd the skill and forsight to tell you the final product would not be represenative of the deer and suggested gaining access to a better cape to use so that he could use the appropriate form size. Really inexcusable. My only suggestion is look for a new taxi.

He got you big time on that form. His work looks good. He either had that form in his shop or got them mixed up or something. Bells and whistles should've went of in his head when he put that cape on the form. To bad. That buck was probably 22" at the small of the neck.

Very nice buck, congrats.

Real nice buck. I had a relative have the same problem with a big buck he killed. When he caped the deer out he cut the neck too close to the head. The taxidermist mis-interpreted the size of the buck and used a mount that did not do the buck justice. Since then we always give the taxidermist alot of extra neck and cape to work with. On the last one I got mounted I cut the neck almost to the shoulders and the taxidermist acually used a mount mold that probably was bigger than the buck acually was.

Nice buck and mount. Congrats.

Very Nice.

fishintay 07-20-2009 07:16 AM

Nice buck.

Thanks guys. I thought the same thing and had the notion of saying something but didn't. I usually take my heads to a veteran taxi that does incredible work, but i wanted a quicker turn-around on this particular deer and i paid for it. Learned a lesson.....patience is a virtue. Thanks again!

bhunter50 07-20-2009 08:13 AM

This is a buck that my regular taxidermist did for me...this buck was a pig and you can tell in the mount...excellent work, which is why I went back time after time.....can't beat a patient and meticulous taxi!

Nice Buck. Congrats. Hope you get another dandy this year.

Mount

I think your Taxi did a very nice job on the mount itself. Everything looks nice and proportioned well. Sorry you're not happy with the neck size. I try to measure the deer in front of my clients ( if they are not frozen) so we both know what the measurements are and what to expect on the finished mount. I order the form from the neck size AFTER IT HAS BEEN SKINNED.The finished mount will reflect the size that the neck was when I measured it in front of the client.

I don't think the cape on the mount is even the same deer. The mount has a double throat patch which doesn't show up on your field photograph. Your taxi may have swapped out a smaller neck sized cap for the mount he gave you and kept the big boy's cape for himself.

trophyhunter60 07-20-2009 05:54 PM

Great buck to bad he put it on the wrong form.

bhunter50 07-20-2009 09:50 PM

naaa, the buck that i shot did have the double throat patch, thats how i know it was a trimming/form ordering issue. but good observation!

bhunter50 07-20-2009 09:51 PM

no, he did have the double throat patch...just doesn't show well in pic. he just misordered the form or trimmed cape down too much.

The mount makes the deer look as if he came from Texas, not Illinois.

I hope my taxi takes his time.
Mine is due back in September.

allmightyhunter13 07-23-2009 11:33 AM

Great lookin deer, and yeah he does look a little thinner in the taxi! but still good lookin buck!
