RE: rolling hunting blind finished
the plastic containers are about 4ft by 4ft. basically a plastic container in a metal cage to give it strength. i had 2 of them. a friend has a 4ft square one as a hunting blind, but i wanted mine bigger so 2 people could get in it.
i cut the tops off of both containers at the right height for the shooting bench, about 40in . then i cut one side out of both ,lapped the together and with sheets metal screws put back together 5ft wide. i did the same thing with the roof. i raised the roof to 6ft and used all the scrap plastic to fill in around the windows. with the metal cage its very strong when srcewed together. these things are already mounted on a metal pallet wwhich i also added to the width. the blind only weighs about 150-175lbs. tthe containers are used by manufacters to transport liquid products, the come white . in my area there are 3-4 different plants that use these things daily and will give the cantainers away if you ask.. places like hersey chocolate, little debbiecakes and a ink plant all have hundreds of these container a year to get rid of. my wife works for a freight company,so she has the right contacts to these places. the blind is 16ft tall and can be towed with my atv,it should work great on the farm around standing corn. we have major bear crop damage and usaully get bear crop damage tags in early september. |

That's a cool blind!

RE: rolling hunting blind finished
Nice job. Seems well thought out. Congrats.

RE: rolling hunting blind finished
That really is prettty cool as long as you got a place to roll it through!
|
RE: rolling hunting blind finished
At only 175lbs, I'd be a little nervous to get up there is there was the possibility of gusty winds. Have you considered adding ballast to the base to stabilize it?
Otherwise it's a great idea, and it looks like it turned out well. Mike |
RE: rolling hunting blind finished
the top part ,the blind itself only weighs 175lbs. the frame is alot heavier. with the wheels all the way to the back, its all tongue weight. i don't think its going to blow over.

RE: rolling hunting blind finished
That is really cool!!!
Got plans? |
RE: rolling hunting blind finished
Man that stand looks FLIPPIN SWEET I would have never thought of using those plastic containers.
|
RE: rolling hunting blind finished
thanks for the comments guys, i think i'm going to pull it down to the farm next week and do alittle groundhog hunting out of it.

RE: rolling hunting blind finished
Looks like a great idea. I would like to see a few more pictures if you have them. Pulling the blind around a hunting area would be fairly easy (limbs, etc), but on the highway at 50 or soI would think the wind would tear it up. Setting it up as a permanent blind would be a lot easier. Lining it with carpet or something would keep a small sound from sounding like a drum.

RE: rolling hunting blind finished
pulling it on the highway wouldn't be a very good idea at 16ft tall. i will be mostly useing it on the farm around corn fields ,so limbs won't be a problem.

RE: rolling hunting blind finished
Wanna make me one? haha Just kidding that looks awsome though!
|
RE: rolling hunting blind finished
Thats a great idea, too bad thats illegal in WI. You cant hunt from any stand if its moblile in Wi.
