Mule Deer Advice

I am primarily a whitetail hunter that has spent most of his hunting life (roughly 25 years) roaming the pine/hardwood forests of East Texas. On occasion, I have hunted in other states including Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, and Alaska. I have hunted mule deer a time or two in Colorado and in the Palo Duro Canyon (Texas Panhandle). However, due to a new job it looks like I will be hunting mule deer on the eastern side of the Panhandle this year in, what I would call, open country. I will most likely be hunting in Bailey county. Is anyone familiar with it? I will have a 30 day bow season followed by a 9 day gun season. Any advice/suggestions for the mule deer greenhorn?

RE: Mule Deer Advice

I would say use the three eights of hunting. Elevate, Locate, and Assassinate. In open country I try to get high to be able to look at lots of country. Use bino's and spotting scope to find quarry at long range. Then find the wind, sun and terrain tomake an approach best suited for what is given you to harvest the animal. Best of luck in the upcoming season.
