Archer to stay off topic the big 3 for years have had the mentality that Americans will buy what we produce. Along comes the foreign guys with the "we'll design what they want" mentality and that to me is the number one reason for the demise of the big 3. ZERO sympathy from me. When Toyota builds a truck with a diesel the the big 3's trucks will be DONE!

if you want a real truck go with the chevy 25006.6 duramax. it will not let you down with anything

The whole scenario doesn't make sense to me. No way I would buy a truck using your stated needs, especially for just an occasional tow of someone else's truck to the beach. Using a duel tire drive, diesel, standard shift truck for off roading/mud boggin just doesn't make sense to me. Buy a nice smaller truck or jeep type vehicle that doesn't drink gas, drive it to the beach (and all other normal uses) and have a good time..

I've owned both a 1500 with a 4.7 and I have a 2500 with the Cummins diesel. Buy the diesel and never look back. The 4.7 was a dog and the gas mileage royally sucked. I have the 3/4 ton with the Cummins and it pulls my boat which is over 8000 lbs. and has no problem whatsoever, has a lot more to give than that, and the gas mileage is great.

I have a buddy that has a Chevy with the big Duramax with the Allison transmission and it is one bad truck. Mine is an 2005 and his is a 2007. I like the interiors of the Chevy better too.

Get a diesel whatever you do and you won't regret it.

How about you take that 12,000 and go out and find a nice lifted jeep (or for that money - build one), and have your buddy, who already has a pickup, tow your rig to the beach. Then you can show them how its done offroad and cruise around the beach topless. A vehicle isn't something to be pressured into buying, especially just to do someone else's work.

NO! No full size Chevy with any motor is available with a manual transmission. If you want a clutch pedal in a Silverado u better buy an older one. They havent used manuals in the 1/2 tons and the 3/4 tons since the 2007 model year. I had considered buying one last year and that put a halt to it quickly.
