My hunting/shooting shack

The shack started out as an elevated observation/shooting tower for myself and guests but has turned into much more. This picture was taken as I was building it before 2006 rifle season.

RE: My hunting/shooting shack

And this was for the 2008 season
The materials I used was either reclaimed building materials, things my friends had, or stuff that was left over from previous projects and were in my garage. The tower is 5'x8' with a 9/12 pitch roof, 7' sidewalls, with a loft for storage. Below is 8'x10' with 2x10 treated floor joists, 7' sidewalls and 9/12 pitch vaulted ceiling . The addition is 8'X 8' with vaulted ceiling and plexiglass in the gable end. The whole thing is insulated and the first room has been paneled. I built a 8'x10' gable roof to cover up my tractor, (Ford 3000), but that soon became the patio area. It has been wired for electric which I plug into a 1000 watt, 110 power inverter, cigarette lighter plug connected to 12 volt car batterys. I had it on battery power during the deer season. A fresh battery will power her for 4 to 5 hours if I watch TV/VHS which by the way I did watch Nascar and football. I also have a 1250 watt generator that I use when we are entertaining friends and family and more lights are needed in the beer garden. Most Friday and Saturday evenings you can find us unwinding around the firepit, enjoying an adult beverage, BBQin, and enjoying our friends and families company.

I shot this little broken up 8 point during the 2008 season from upstairs at 100 yards. It was right at daylight and he looked a lot bigger at the time. I passed on does daily during the 2006 and 2007 seasons while I was waiting on a buck which never showed up during the day.

Glad you guys like the shack, except the ones that didn't like the paint job which by the way looks much better in person. I really was just putting some paint on the rusted tin, besides that's what we do here in Missouri, camo it all. Here's a picture looking outside from up top.

Looks good to me! Perfect for those days where the weather is horrible and you don't have to trek in 1/2 mile to get lunch, just walk down the ladder. Fine job on a blind/hunting cabin/adult beverage drinking area.

Thats a nice one, I'd have given my left nut to have something like that in Illinois 1st, 2nd, and muzzleloader seasons 08. They were colder than it's been in a long time. Congrats.

I'd hunt from that anytime over freezing my butt off in a conventional stand. Hunting is supposed to be fun (IMO). Sitting in a comfortable chair in a blind that's protected from wind, rain and snow, with a space heater and a nice hot cup of coffee = fun. Freezing your nads off in an open, uncomfortable tree stand when it's 5 below, snowing and the wind's blowing at 20mph = not fun. That, my friends, is the redneck Cadillac of hunting right there.
