140# doe. It wasDec. 3, 1994. I was10 years old andwas on crutches from a hip surgery I had only 2 weeks before. I was unable to climb a stand (obviously) and getting up from sitting was painful so I stood all morning. Around 8:15 am 2 does walked up the bluff and stood just inside the timber about 10 yds away. I took aim and pulled the trigger. They both ran into the standing corn and I waited by the truck that was only 30 yards behind me. My dads friend walked up and asked if I got one. I said no I think I missed and he told me he heard it running through the corn and stop. I took him to where I had shot and we walked into the cornfield. About 5 rows in we found blood and about 15 rows farther there she laid.Ill never forget it.

My first deer was a button buck that my brother and me jumped. He shot 3 times and I shot 2x and the deer was hit 5x. That was my first deer season at 16 yo old. the next season I shot a 147" 10 pt with a 7" drop tine. I got spoiled to young, it took me 15 years to get another buck of that caliber.

ORIGINAL: sjsfire

Shot a button buck for my first. Over 80 yards so I didn't see the nubs. I thought it was a doe.
Same here, the range was about the same too. Still ate good that night. ;)

1980 ten years old at the time, sitting with my uncle who at the time was in his late 60's.
Shooting his browning 12g slug gun a doe walked out in the field at about 80 yards. Later he told everyone he thought i was going to miss, well i busted her in the spine. She dropped in her tracks. I carried her on my back all the way to camp. Those memories will be with me forever.

RE: what was your first deer?

My first deer was at age 12 with a single shot H&R 12 gauge that I bought for $35 and always had to stuff a towel against my shoulder to practice with. It was a huge buck that ran up on me after being spooked by other hunters. I saw it run down a ravine, and I took off in that direction thinking it would run down the ravine. When it popped up on my side about 30 yards in front of me and quartering towards me, it stopped. So I swung the gun up and cocked it in one motion, aimed, and shot. The deer dropped, and I can't recall any time I've ever been more excited. Funny thing was I can remember aiming at a spot on the shoulder, and then nothing until the deer was on the ground- amazing how a little adrenaline will get rid of recoil. Also, I had known the whole time that it was a buck because of how large bodied and thick it looked running at me, plus it had that light brownish patch on his head at the base of the antlers. However, it popped up on my side of the ravine so fast that I didn't notice the antlers being broken off near the base until after I'd already shot it. So my first deer was a buck, but still antlerless...

I've since moved to trad archery tackle, and the only thing I've felt like shooting and also had within 30 yards was a tasty looking doe that went 122 lbs. field dressed.
