The map showing where CWD is was very helpful, thanks to the poster. It got me thinking what is different in the central states where it is and say the Eastern states where it isn' t ( at least yet anyway)? I figure the virus ( or bacteria) needs to start somewhere perhaps a water supply and then through the herd. Where I' m heading with this question is if we could find the source and treat it then we might get rid of it. Looks to me we are treating the problem( wich does need to be addressed) not looking for a long term solution.

If they could find a medicine that kills or prevents this disease then we could immunize all of the healthy captive deer and elk to stop the transmission from the captive heards. Not sure how they would be able to treat the wild heard though.

Think you' ll ever kill one like this over bait?

My dad killed this one over bait.

I' m sure if I went through the Wisconsin Buck and Bear Club Record Book I could find a ton of other deer killed the same way.

Big Bulls, if we could find an antidote I figure we could coat the feed people use to to do the baiting and supplemental feedings. We already coat bean seeds with a fungicide to prevent the seedlings from damping off. So it wouldn' t be impossible to coat the feed in a similar fashion if we could find the wonder drug.

I' m against the ban for sure. It' s not that I can' t hunt without bait. Because I' ll throw up pics of deer NOT taken over bait if that' s what everyone here wants. I' m just proving a point. That nice bucks can be taken over bait. As far as taking one such as the Jordan buck....you never know.

James , those two bucks must be an exception to the rule! I' ve hunted both ways for many years and have never had a muture trophy class buck come to a feeder or bait pile during legal hunting hours. I' m sure it' s possible but I' d bet if a survey was done , the overwhelming majority of baiters would say they never had the opportunity to harvest a trophy buck over bait.
Did you harvest those bucks with their nose in a feeder or did you harvest them on a travel route to the feeder?
If you' ve harvested bucks that big without the use of bait I bet I know which one gave you the bigger satisfaction.

Nice buck James. Your still about 50 inches or so away tho.
I wasn' t aware that the WI. Buck and Bear Club listed which animals were taken over bait.
