RE: which gun
Obviously, either would work fine. Personally, I favor the quarter bores. I shoot Barnes TSX in mine. They are deadly accurate, flat shooting and have worked wonderfully.

RE: which gun
.2506 +1
Mine shoots 100 gr bullets very well, BT's being my most shot as it's only been a range/varmit rig. Next fall hoping to get it out for some action on deer, my plans are to work up a loadwith the 110 Accubond to test against the 100gr TSX, Partition and BT loadsI have already worked up for it. I like the AB bullet for my usage, provided it shoots well. Nothing wrong with 270 either, I have had one in my safe for years though I also see nothing it does that 2506 can't with less recoil in terms of deer sized game. All said both are fine choices..good luck:) |
RE: which gun
i shoot 117 gr. pills out of my .25-06 and love it.

RE: which gun
the 270 is my choice with 140grn hornady or seirra spire point bullets, nothing fancy just the old proven killers. i'm at almost 200 deer with these bullets. loaded at around 2800fps they are deadly.
the 25-06 will do the job just fine. i like a little heavier bullet then 100grns for whitetails. |
RE: which gun
I like the .270 with 130 grain bullets. It's a proven killer. On the other hand I know several hunters that use and feel the same way about the 25'06.It all comes down to:1)Does it get the job done? 2) Do you like it?.If the answer is yes on both questions, then go with it.I like the .270 and the 30'06 and I go with them because I know firsthand what they can do and I like hunting with them.Go with a gun that does the trick and that you want to hunt with.

RE: which gun
Either one will do the trick. Determine which one you are more comfortable with and find load that shoots best.
You can't go wrong with eiither. In most cases, bullet placement is more important than anything else. Good Luck! |
RE: which gun
those are both great guns but i like the 270 more it is more versitile for hunting all kinds of animals to me
|
RE: which gun
I like my 270 but I have killed deer with both. Bottom line is the fact that the deer won't care. I think it is personal preference. What are you more comfortable with? Are you recoil sensitive? Is there a way you can shoot one of each before you buy?
I debated the same thing before I bought my go-to deer rifle but I went with the 270 in case I ever had the opportunity to hunt elk. I would feel more comfortable with the larger caliber. That is most likely just a confidence thing. I haven't regretted the 270 purchase for one minute. 270 loads are usually easier to find if you need to buy unexpectedly too. |
RE: which gun
.270 with Hornady BTSP cartridges. Personally, you couldn't give me a box of ballistic tips.
