Trophy Rock. Really Work or Gimmick?

I'm thinking about purchasing a "Trophy Rock" and was wondering if others have had any luck with them? Also, wondering if there are any homemade mineral blocks that people have made themselves? Interested in your replies. Thanks.

I love using trophy rocks. Definately a deer favorite.
