IN Wi. The law says you shall register every deer/turkey/bear that you shoot The animal has to be brought to a registration staion (not a DNR station tho). Does have there ears slit so you can't register them more than once.

No check in stations in Iowa, but we have mandatory harvest reporting, just implemented a couple years ago.
You can do it on-line or by phone, you then get a report number that you write on the tag.
They track whether it was an antlered buck, button buck, shed buck, or doe.
It's a good program that allows them to plan for next year and you can see the harvest report by county:

I was curious how many of you tag and check in your deer. Last year was my first year, and I kinda followed my neighbors lead and did not run my deer through a game station (note I did have the proper licenses for the deer I killed).
I think next year I will take the extra time to check any deer I get in, as I know that the data helps the DNR manage the deer population.

It is mandatory to register all deer shot in Wisconsin. You will receive a fine if you are caught without a registered deer and would probably get your deer confiscated. They do give you a few days to get your deer registered so you can take several in at a time.

I voted never because there is no tagging system in place currently, and no check-in stations except on WMA's.There is a bill in the legislature to resume a tagging system that we once had in MS.
