Shrink tubing for a climbing tree stand.
I need to replace the plastic tubing (shrink tubing)that covers thechainson myAPI Grand Slam climbing stand. I thoughtI found a source, but when I did a google on the phonenumber identified on the web site afew scam reports came up.I am now back to square one.Any recommendations? New chains are expensive and the old stuff is ripping off. Thanks.

I've seen and article about this some where...This guy went to Lowes Hardware and bought the clear tubing that they sell by the foot...If my memory is right, it was 5/8 ID...He then put it in hot water, connected a wire to the chain and pulled it through while hot...
I've got a couple of APIs, I just put duct tape on the part that goes around the tree and forget it... |

Shrink tubing should work fine, Probably need to go to electrical supply store. Shrink it with a heat gun. It can and does shrink a lot.

I redid my summitt cables with the plastic dip coating. I just brushed it on, and hung them outside to drip dry.

I did the vinyl tubing thing myself that nchawkeye is referring to. Pull the plastic bushings out of your API climber, get tubing from home depot and cut two 6 foot lengths, heat it up in some boiling water to make it a bit more pliable. While still warm, run a piece of strong wire thru the tubing, attach one end to something that won't move and attach the other end to your chain. PULL! use a drill or soldering iron to put holes in where they were on the original tubes and there you have it. I did this 3 or 4 years ago and it looks like I did it yesterday. Much better than the tubing that comes with the API. If I find the original post w/pics on how to do this I'll post it.
