RE: Home made feeders

I have also seen a picture on here a couple of years ago with a 5 gal. bucket hanging from a tree limb. The bucket has a hole cut in the bottom of it. Take a wooden dowel or maybe even a broom handle and cut it approx. 2-3 ft. long. On one end drive a nail or put a screw all the way through it so that it is sticking out about the same length on both sides. Make sure the hole in the bucket is only slightly larger than your dowel or broomstick. Slide the dowel/broomstick through the hole so that the nail/screw is resting on the bottom inside of the bucket. The nail keeps it from sliding all the way through. Hang feeder from the tree with the dowel/broomstick hanging down low enough so that only a deer can reach it. Coat the end of the dowel with a little peanut butter or something so the deer will want to lick it or touch it. When they start moving the dowel/broomstick, IF you have cut the hole the proper size, corn will begin to fall out. Coons and other animals shouldn't be able to get to it...Maybe;)Sounds like a good idea but I have NOT tried this. Good luck. Oh yea... don't forget to put the lid back on the bucket.

RE: Home made feeders

The problems of bucket feeders and PVC pipe feeders is that any animals, squirrels, hogs or deer can get to them too easily. These feeders can be emptied out in one day. It will save you time and money in the long run to invest in a timer! On a five gallon bucket, with a timer you can get close to two weeks of feeding, feeding twice a day.
Moultrie makes a good 6 gallon feeder with a timer for 50.00 or less. When it is suspended from a limb with a rope and pulley, it is easy to fill and animals, especially the undesirables like squirrels and hogs can't get to it!
The money you save on wasted feed will easily pay for the timer models in no time at all!
