Do you hunt solo or in a group?

I just wanted to get a bit of a consensus as to how folks here hunt, is it typically with a group? or do you go at it solo? personnally i've hunted with a group of friends twice and it was o.k. but i much prefer hunting solo. although i may get into duck hunting and i suppose duck hunting lends itself to group hunting more than any other. and my son is 7 so in a few more years i'll probably start going out with him.

i hope this is the right spot for this poll and question, if not i apologize in advance.

Im solo for Bow, muzzleloader, and shotgun...

Had a buddy of mine get into bow hunting this year and I took him with me a few times, we have exclusive permission to hunt about 50 acres which for jersey is a lot! Well of all the places to set up his stand it was maybe 80 yards from mine. I could hear him making noise from his stand the first day, the second day he comes stolling past my stand at about 7:15, right around dusk, whistling, after telling him that night he's gotta be quiet, I sat quietly all day, only to have him come walking past my stand AGAIN at dusk!! Went out alone the next day, saw 2 does and passed up a spike...dont think its irony! So im solo now, with the exception of my father when he wants to come up!

I typically hunt with one other person. I either hunt with my dad or my best friend. Occasionally I will go on a group hunt, but that's not the norm. I do not like to hunt solo for safety reasons. I may be 300+ yards from my hunting partner, but I think it is important to have someone else in the woods with you that knows were you are. I like to know that if I fall and get hurt, someone knows were I am at and someone will be coming to check on me if I don't come out when we designated. Just me. Besides, I like the fellowship of being with fellow hunters and sharing the sport I love.

I voted solo rifle, but I do hunt with a partner not a group. We usually hunt the same area, but we'll be miles apart so I call that solo.We partner up really as a way of being safe.If one of us were to get hurt we can call on our cell phones for help.

When Im deer hunting Im alone 95% of the time. If the weather is crappy or Ive already bagged my deer, I'll sit with a buddy if the blind is big enough. I have to go on overnite trips to deer hunt so if Im deer hunting I usually have my father or one of my hunting buddies on the trip with me.

I hunt solo with a muzzleloader most of the time. I have no tolerance for people who don't take hunting as seriously as I do. Therefore I won't hunt with them. I really want to get into bow hunting, but I know I will become obsessed with it so I refuse to give in.

RE: Do you hunt solo or in a group?

bow season im solo...

rifle and flintlock season i am almost always with my crew...just me and a couple good buddies...once in a while we got a couple tag alongs but for the most part theres only a couple of us doing pushes for eachother...

hunting solo from a stand in PAs rifle and flintlock season is often going to lead to frustration...only deer youll see will be ones other guys pushed...but if its not the opener or saturdays, there arent that many guys in the woods...but the pressure those days is more than heavy enough to keep them from straying too far in the daylight....

During rifle season on weekends I hunt with my dad, grandpa, and uncle, though we sit seperately we meet up for lunch and usually put on a couple drives before sitting the evening. During the week if I am off I hunt alone and during muzzleloader unless dad comes, I hunt alone. Nice part about going it alone is you aren't on anyones schedule, however, some of the best times are around the campfire at lunch listening to the old stories.

99 percent of the time it is my wife and I hunting. She has hunted with me since and even before we were married, I used to hunt with her brothers and she was almost always with them. She always field dressed her older brothers deer for him.

I hunt solo almost all of the time, but sometimes with my BIL, as long as he is a good 1/4-1/2 mile away. Comes in handy when I need to load my deer. :D

One of my greatest joys as a father is to go hunting with my son. He took his first deer at 8 years old and he is now 15. Just about every time one of us has been hunting the other one has been there also. Only one of us usually actually does the hunting. I will spot/call deer until he takes his deer and then we switch. We also like to film our hunts so the one without the gun will usually be shooting with the video camera.

I generally hunt solo in the firearms deer season. I find that my schedule makes it hard to plan trips with others. I may partner up with an acquaintance a bit this fall.
