Factory .243 Ammo
What do you guys shoot for Whitetails? I pickup 2 boxes of Federal 100 grain soft point Hi-Shok.Brand new gun going to site it tomorrow.
Any opinions on this ammo? |
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
i use Remington Core-lokts and i just love them. anyother bullet will not shoot worth crap out of my gun.

RE: Factory .243 Ammo
What rifle are you shooting?
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
They are good bullets they should shoot well in your rifle and cleanly take deer with a well placed shot. I shoot them in my rifle and use them for deer hunting around here they are 15 bucks a box, cheaper than other brands.

RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I've killed about a hundred with plain old CoreLokts...If you are talking about the cheaper Federal in the blue and silver box, they will be fine...I killed 8-10 with those a few years back, I believe they are the Speer HotCore...I don't think they are as hard as a CoreLokt, but they will do...

RE: Factory .243 Ammo
My buddy that has a Remington .243 uses Winchester Soft Points in 100 grain. His gun jams up if you try to shoot Remington Core Lockts in it so that's why he uses the Winchesters. Honestly, just use whatever your gun shoots best. I've read nothing but good about those Federals in all rifles when it comes to shooting deer so if your rifle shoots good with them they would be a fine bullet to use.

RE: Factory .243 Ammo
The one I have is in a red box w/ black accents.
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
That is probably vital shok then they will work just fine.
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I use Remington Cor-lockt 100gr. and haven't experienced any problems, and will continue to use them.
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I also use Remington Core-Lokt
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
The main thing is to make a good shot on the deer. Don't take marginal shots and put it in the vitals. I like Hornady BTSP.

RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I won't be shooting Cor-lockts anymore, one because my Dad is handloading for me, and two out of the 16 that I shot out of a box, 2 didn't go off. Tried them both twice. That is a 12.5% that are bad. I still have 4 left, and who knows there may be another one in there.

RE: Factory .243 Ammo
Before I started reloading, I used winchester power point 100 grains. Killed a lot of deer and yotes and pumpkins with them.
I know 2 different people who had no-fires with remington ammo this year. One in .243 and one in 30-06. |
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I have hit a point in my shooting that I only reload for my guns, and though I do not like Remington factory ammo, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Corelokt bullets. I would go as far as saying that they may easily be the best hunting bullet on the market for the price.
I have guns in too many caliber better suited for deer size game, but I recently bought a Sako 75 Finnlite in 243 to use on "varmints" and am loading it with 80 hr Ballistic Tip and 85 gr Partitions. Both shoot very well, and the Partitons SHOULD be adequate to use on deer. |
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I have use the Federal Classics in my .243 for 8 years and have had zero problems with them. Bought them on clearance for $5/box.
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
I shoot Sierra 100gr "Game Kings"
|
RE: Factory .243 Ammo
They're Hi-shok,more than likely they're an older bullet.That's why they were $13 a box.
The one thing that's nice about Remington ammo is you can find it just about everwhere. I'll site in with the Federals then start to experiment & see what I get the better groups with.I want to try Hornady100grBTSP also. Anyone use WinchesterSupreme 95grballistic silvertips or super-X 100gr. powerpoint? |
