Default Horse Poop/Hay Cover Scent

Hey guys, will smelling like dirt, horses, hay scare deer? I usually worry about my scent but this year the buck that I shot the wind was blowing right towards him. And I had not washed my hunting clothes after working on the farm. Has this happened to you before, it got me thinking scent control might not be that important.

Well most everyone you talk to is going to tell you that scent control is important, and so will I, but basically what you were using is a cover scent, which a lot of already use. Cover our own scent up with something that the deer won't be alarmed by=an unalarmed deer. If that deer is used to the smell of horse manure in the area you are hunting, I wouldn't wash that smell out of your clothes.

I think deer tolerate the "usual" smells throughout their territory.

I would guess that if you were to venture too far away from the farm, and the "usual" farm smell, it would alert the deer.
In other words, the deer may be use to the close proximity of the farm, but get away from the farm and I would think it would alert the deer,
as it is out of the ordinary for them to expect it. It's most likely acting like a cover scent??!

An example would be, if you were to sleep in that same clothing and the "usual" farm smell, your wife would also take notice...
Out of the ordinary, as she is use to it at the barn, not in bed!

we hunt beside chicken houses and the deer come out in the field all time. it stinks like hell but covers your scent real good. they say you will get use to the smell but that is BS

I walk past the stables on my way to my favorite stand and always try to choose my steps carefully and make sure to step into a pile or two
