Deer Story from Montana.

So, whitetails live and die in the same square mile do they? This fall I hunted for a week in the eastern part of the state. I park my car at the '20-mile' marker on a stretch of highway to hunt my favorite stand. From this stand, I saw this one buck three times in six days. He was unique in that he had snapped off his left main beam just past the brow tine. He had 4 points on the other side, was either agreat 2 1/2 year old or a mediocre 3 1/2 y.o. I watched him for at least two hours at ranges within 100 yards, so I knew him well.

I last saw him from the stand on a Saturday morning. The next day, after a full day in the field, I jumped into the car and headed back to my hotel room. As I neared the town I stay at, a buck ran across the road in front of me. He hopped the fence and stopped, so I wheeled the car and put my high beams on him in the darkness. It was the "one-horned" buck I had been seeing all week!

Here's the trick - he ran across the road between the 6- and 7-mile markers. In other words, he was now 13 to 14 crow-fly miles from the place where I had seen him all week. That's a trek for a whitetail!

It is obviously a weird mutan stalker deer following you...I'd keep your doors locked if I were you.
