RE: Food Plots
ORIGINAL: mikybigbuck if your soil is right, plant corn and soybeans together...its not as expensive as the "premium" blends...it fattens up the deer and gives them protein for growth and antlers...by fall they'll be in it like candy... http://store.evolved.com/home/produc...als/71108.aspx |
RE: Food Plots
Have a soil test first. Clover/alfalfa does best in pH > 6.5. Soybeans and corn pH 5.8-7. Small grains will do OK to pH 5.
Weed control is very critical to success. An ATV sprayer is a real time and plot saver. I would suggest roundup ready soybeans first year. Soybeans tolerate low P and K fertililitylevels, and roundup helps with weed control. Plant turnips in late September on part of the bean plot after they have matured for winter greens and weed control. Control the weeds in the soybeans with the roundup. Easy to be successful. Try a perennial like clover next year IF your soil will support it. Liming a food plot is very difficult. Plant to your soil and control the weeds, and yourdeer will eat well. |
