I mostly hunt from the ground during gun season (muzzleloader). I have used a ground blind while bow hunting some - got 1 deer that way. There are pros and cons of hunting from the ground. I would always use a blind when bow hunting- it's very difficult to get a 30 yard or less shot on a deer if you're not camoflauged or concealed in some way. With a gun, it's a different story - you can hunt from the ground with or without a blind. Deer do notice blinds, however- so it's better to leave a blind up for awhile and let the deer get used to it. Turkeys are another story- you can pop the blind up that morning and often they'll strut by and not even notice you're there....

I hunt from the ground during gun and archery season. Sometimes from a pop up blind and sometimes let the natural foilagehide me. It's a lot safer than tree stands.

I hunt many different ways. each has it's own benefit. Tree stands are nice for seeing and hearing better. Ground blinds are nice for bad weather days. I think you need to look at your situation and choose the best stand for each situation.

If you hunt on public land during a firearm season, I stronly urge you to be in a stand or tower (using a fall restraint system) andNOT on the ground.Iespecially suggest you do not useagroundblind orconceal yourself in some bushes, brush, etc. if you are hunting on public land. This is dangerous enough on private land with all the trespassers and those who do not follow proper, courteous hunting ethics.

I have a home made blind I sit in on cold, windy days. It sits their year round so the deer don't think much of it. I think that's the best thing you can do with a blind. If you bring something in that's never been there before deer will be more prone to not come around.
