We are seeing some bucks in Iowa already shedding as well... I heard some guys talking about the deer being ahead on the "biological calendar"?

If anyone knows what that means or how far ahead they are and what it means for antler growth I'm curious to know...

I've heard that when nutrition is poor the bucks will shed earlier than normal.

I live in SW MO. Bow season is open here until the 15th. I've been hunting a nice 10 point all season and was very disappointed to have him walk right under me last night with only half his rack.

With stress and rigors of winter, " horn " keeping is last on the " to do " list. Once rut/mating and all that's associated with it is over, antlers serve no useful purpose. Nutrients are directed elsewhere. Main reason a wounded/injured buck's antlers pull right off DURING season.

I've heard of some bucks dropping in northern Wisconsin. Seems early, but if they're dropping, I wanna get out there!
