RE: Wisconsin Wolves
Shoot all wolves. The deer don't understand that wolves are a danger, because they have been gone for the past few decades. Thats exactly whats causing the 50 percent drop in registrations in the Northwoods, and the 20 percent drops around the state. There are a lot more here than the DNR tells us.

RE: Wisconsin Wolves
Wolves, Bears, several years of T-Zones (Doe seasons). We have less deer this year!...... I would put my money on over harvest of Does by hunters and a harsh last winter. 07-08. This winter is shaping up to be bad. I don't think that the local wolf population has exploded but they clearly are expanding their range in Wisconsin. Bears are doing very well here .....It could be that way because Wisconsin residents have to wait as long as eight years to draw a bear tag!!! Its easy to get frustrated with the DNR.[:@] I live and hunt in Bayfield Co. and have seen very few deer this gun season. Two . It would seem something is wrong.
Joke: How many deer pull Santa's Slay? 56 ......the DNR counted them! CBulovsky Washburn Wi |
RE: Wisconsin Wolves
I agree. I am originally from Ashland. Also hunt Bayfield Co. Lots of wolves, bear, coyotes. We saw or heard coyotes and wolves just about every morning and evening in our group . We saw 2 bear and a ton of tracks.
I've never coyote hunted but am seriously thinking about it. I'd love to get some pic's of our wolves but they are very hard to see. We have only seen one at about 300yds. A huge cream one last grouse season. But we have heard them howling in the evenings. We have a pack of 4 adults(by the tracks)and I believe some younger ones too. |
RE: Wisconsin Wolves
you guys are right on. Adrian Wydeven is completely clueless on the wolf population! 550 wolves in this state my a#S. If this doorknob had a clue, and had an accurate estimate we might have a better chance against the treehugger judges, but when our own wolf biologists say the population is declining ...we're screwed.
I hunt 3 counties, langlade, forest, and onieda. I see so much wolf sign and hear them so often its a joke! I have tons of deer cam pics of them over the last few years. They are breeding like rats. last week I called in 4 of them. a couple started howling just before dark about 200 yds away. I called back and at least 4 of them lit up. I worked them around me and I actually got one to come to within 50 yards, but they would have had to cross my tracks to get under me. I could hear it walking in the snow. When I got down and walked out I could see where it walked up to my tracks and the turned around. But it still kept howling. When I got out to the road about 200 yds from my stand they were still howling. They had to know I was there. I don't think they care. |
RE: Wisconsin Wolves
The newspaper had a recent article saying that the DNR estimated 300 in wolves Wisconsin and a bunch more in Michigan and Minnesota. Then a couple weeks later another article in the paper said there was 500 wolves in Wisconsin. It seems to me after sitting through gun and bow season and seeing one deer that the DNR can't count for crap. Who knows how many wolves are out there or deer. I don't trust the DNR and I don't think they know their bh from a hole in the ground. It would be nice if the state wasn't so "progressive" and "forward" and showed more common sense.

RE: Wisconsin Wolves
If your situation is anything like Idaho, take the # of wolves the fed says you have and multiply it by about 3 to get the actual #. Politics and passion have no place in wildlife management. They have even been going against the biologist who supervised the wolf reintroduction in our area, they are calling for controlling of their #'s, but the bunny lovers have blocked them with their tofu eating federal judges.
