It has been my experience that I have been able to distinguish a
BB by the "toupe" on his head. The pedicles cause the hair on the BBs skull to lay very oddly compared with a doe. I have seen several that appear as if the had a "rug" on their head. Not sure if that is something unique to where I hunt(most likely not), but it enables me to differentiate between does and BBs with a high rate of success with out using scope or feild glass at well over 30 yards.

Well, one an easy way to keep from shooting a BB is to not shoot fawns. If the deer is that small and tiny, its a fawn or first year deer in most states. Thats my only way of making sure I don't shoot a BB.

I don't have aproblem shooting an anterless deer that dresses at 100+ pounds, even if it is a button buck.

I have to yet to ever see a BB every dress out 100 pounds. And thats from Canada, to Maine to whereever.

People often misjudge the size of a deer IMO.

I tend to glass deer as much as I can before taking a shot. I've been fooled too but as luck would have it I haven't pulled the trigger. I look for the bigger does and of course big bucks. I think the bigger deer will act differently that the younger ones. Meaning they are more carefull or not as careless walking out of cover etc.

This year I had a dear walk up under my stand. I thought it was a doe. I knew it was smaller than I wanted to take. I kept looking at it and finaly saw that it was a BB.

I know of no other way to tell than stick to the mature deer....

When you turn them over to field dress, the difference is obvious. :D

I'm right there with you brother, i've done the same the past 2 years! This year was by far the worst in my judgement because after droppin what i thought was forsure a doe, i sat extra hours than planned, hoping the smell of "her" would get around to the bucks. Lol needless to say, i could've sat 20 minutes, gutted and threw him in the truck, and sat somewhere else for longer than i did.

Sorry for not puttin an input on it, but i was reading this hoping i could get some advice too lol
