Slug Experts>>>Slug Gun Choice???

RE: Slug Experts>>>Slug Gun Choice???
I have never even fired a shot from my Mossy 835 with the scoped cantelever rifled barrel that came with it. Nice Nikon scope and all, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I've used the turkey barrel only so far (2 birds for 2 shots this past season in the field.) For slugs, I still love my smoothbore 870 Express. Its not a long range gun, but when I use it, I don't expect to take long range shots either.

Love my 870 cantilever. I put a Boyd's thumbhole stock on it and it does the trick. That said, if I were to buy a dedicated slug gun today, I'd be looking at the H&R USH. You also asked about 12 or 20ga. My 870 is a 12 and my son's is exactly like it, though in 20. Either one is just fine. With today's sabots, I'd probably go with the 20ga.

My Browning A bolt gives me consistent ragged one holers at 100 yards.
My backup slug gun is a NEF single shot rifled 20ga and shoots slightly better at 100 yds.
The Browning is going for bargain prices considering what you get

H&R Ultra Slug for me. It will shoot dead on. It may be a little heavy and it is a single shot, but you have to love the accuracy. One should treat a gun shot as an archery shot. There "should" not be a need for a second shot, if you are taking the right shot..
