tree stand theft
 

I was wondering what tatics you all use to prevent treestand theft. I wonder if anyone has come up with some proven ways to catch those responsible. Iv' e thought about using a trail cam but figure that would be found and stolen too. Any ideas or is this just the cost of hunting these days?

HHHO trail cam would probably be the best, put it up high and hide it to where the criminals can' t see it. I know some people that use a chain to lock there stand, but half the time the thiefs carry bolt cutters.

Use a climber, bring it in,bring it out. Been doing that for years as I hunt State Land not private. I don' t believe fixed stands are allowed on any State Land, in any state over night.That would be considered a permanent stand, according to the NJ. Div of Fish&Game. Might be the game wardens doing their job.

A trail cam would definetly work...but it would be useless if it was found. The flash from a camera could easily give away its location. Just try to keep it hidden you set up a trail cam, and try to put it up high. Using chains on your treestand wouldn' t hurt either.

I hunt in michigan and its legal to leave a stand until the end of the hunting season. The woodlots i hunt are usually private and small to medium in size.Most of these spots are owned by developers and corporations waiting for housing or stripmalls to be built. They hold good amounts of deer but the nearby homeowners or teritorial hunters take offense to sharing the land. I would use a climber but it' s hard to find the right tree in the right spot that will accomadate a climber. Also i hunt very close to beds and feeding areas and i can' t make much noise.

I never thought about hanging one up high. I think that might work! Maybe even leaving a dummy trail cam for them to find he he .

I will try the trail cam up high. As for chains i do use them but they are cut.Thought maybe about using a thick chain like they use on harleys.

Try using the API Skyhooks. They attach with lag bolts....they really seem to work well for me.

Instead of chains, use cable. About 4 ft. long with spliced loops. Use a big Master lock. It almost takes a torch to cut through a cable of this size.

Oops, didn' t mention size. Either 3/8 or 1/2 inch cable. It would take them quite a while to gnaw through it.
