Default CNN's article on the disappearance of Acorns this year

Sorry If this has already been posted here somewhere. Here is a link to an article concerning the lack of acorns this year on the east coast, and other states.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/12/12/acorn.shortage/index.html

It mentions Virginia as being hit hard, but what is really weird where I live in VA (south east) we had a ton of acorns this year...more than normal in my area actually..

I also read a diff article that mentioned Germany as being affected as well..this is really weird..

Could this maybe explain the poor seasons some are having?

I also wonder if this will effect the deer population in these areas...the article mentions squirrels, but we all know deer love em as well..
pretty scary

Here in NW Ohio this is the most acorns I've ever seen... not sure if it had to do with wet first half of summer and then no rain for July/Aug/Sept.? I've got some happy squirrels and deer in our area!

Ditto what creshaw said. Complete mast failure where I hunt in NVa.

Not too many here in NE either, at least the places I've hunted.

In MD, it was the worst year for acorns I ever seen. I have litterly 50 oaks on my property, and didn't see any. Very strange.

I hunted SE Ohio and several portions of western PA. The WORST acorn crop I've ever seen in my life. Completely FUBAR'd my season.

Here in central IL acorns on my land are sparse, Most years we have loads of them but not this year. Deer are sure taking benefit of food plots.
