State Land Stands
Everytime I go hunt the state land or just go to walk through and scout I stuble upon a few permanant stands. Here in NY we are not allowed to leave stands in the State Land but everyone sets them up. it pisses me off because when I hunt it I haul my climber in and it takes me extra time to get in and everything. Im sick of the people that just abuse it. I also found a climber up in a tree with some climbing sticks. My buddy wants me and him to go and take it but I feel bad. But they should not leave their stands up in the first place. Anyone share the same feelings???

RE: State Land Stands
Call the game warden and report it. It's probably illegal for them do use climbing stakes also.

RE: State Land Stands
IMO stealing is stealing. I know it is public land and placing and leaving stands are illeagal but have you thought about notifying the proper authorities. I would be upset if I had discovered my stand gone. My husband and I have lost several stands we have had out and this was on private land that we lease with no other hunters on this lease. Nothing like going out to move a stand to find it gone and these stands had cable and locks on them.

RE: State Land Stands
Yea thats why I feel bad about taking the stands. These are on State Land the climber is not even locked or anything the permanant wooden ones have locks on them but the other one i found is not. The more I think about it the more I do want to call the warden and show the stand to him.

RE: State Land Stands
Is it illegal in NY to have permenant stands on public land? Here in TN it is illegal to have permanat stands on public land.If it is illegal I'd report it to the Game Warden. If not, just get over it.But don't steal the mans stand.I'd put a note on it and scare him.I'd say if I come back and find your stand here im going to take it,so take it down.Something along those lines should get them to take it.

RE: State Land Stands
honestly i wouldn't worry about it. i'd just leave it there and if someone does take it to bad.
|
RE: State Land Stands
don't steal them man that is what puts a bad taste in peoples mouth about hunters. turn them in to the dec or forest ranger
|
RE: State Land Stands
Call the warden, turn them in. That'll stop them

RE: State Land Stands
On state land "PERMANENT" stand means a stand that is left up after December 16th or a home built tree fort style stand where things are nailed to a tree. In Allegany county where I live the DEC officer says that it's OK to leave up a climber or hang on stand for the season but recommends locking it to the tree. You can't screw steps into trees so you'll need a climbing stick or strap on steps or a climbing stand. Call your county's DEC office and ask what they think to be sure. Don't steal the guy's stand.

RE: State Land Stands
Yeah dont lower yourself to stealing them, just report them to the officials.

RE: State Land Stands
What's your problem bro? leave em, hunt legally how you are, no one likes a taddle tail.
States don't want trees ruined, really I don't see why states don't allow you to leave a ladderstand up for a season.... If anything, just go use their stands already in place.... Stealing their stands certainly isn't the right thing to do, even if you're just trashing them or ditching them in a parking lot. If you're that much of a stickler call the warden see what they want to do. Just imagine what that guy would do if he caught you stealing his stand, illegal or not... you'll end up with a stand through your windshield. |
RE: State Land Stands
Wherein the rules and regs does it say you can't leave your stand up in NY. I have heard about that in other states but didn't think it was that way in NY. Just curious.

RE: State Land Stands
You guys will be happy to know that I did not go and take the stand from the State Land and I did not report it either. It just pissed me off one day cus they were breaking the rules by building permanant stands on state land.
In NYS when you hunt state prop it says that you cant use ATV and you are not allowed to hang permanant stands. You can use a climber like I do tho. And maybe next year I will use their spots for hunting since there there. It just sucks hauling in my big climber when they already have a spot set up |
RE: State Land Stands
In Allegany county where I live the DEC officer says that it's OK to leave up a climber or hang on stand for the season but recommends locking it to the tree Keep in mind that it is unlawful to: [ul][*]Travel off-road using any motorized vehicles (motorcycles, snowmobiles, trail bikes, motor scooters, mopeds, all terrain vehicles, etc.), except as specifically allowed by a permit or posted notice.[*]Damage vegetation, including trees, or remove anything from state land.[*]Place nails or other hardware into trees.[*]Build permanent structures, such as tree stands, platforms and blinds.[*]Erect, use or maintain a building or structure.[*]Store personal property. Which would be your stand in a tree.[*]Deposit or leave any litter or rubbish[/ul] I don't see why states don't allow you to leave a ladderstand up for a season.... |
RE: State Land Stands
I'm guilty of hanging stands for the season which is not legal here in MA on public land. It's also illegal to cut any vegetation as in clearing shooting lanes but I sure don't know anyone that doesn't do that! I have had stands stolen/taken off public land and always attributed it to theft by another hunter not concern for the law.
I'm hunting more and more private small plots now and hanging stands is not a problemForesters know screw in step are not going to hurt a healthy tree. They sure don't have a problem taking a core sample. |
RE: State Land Stands
So if you found a car parked illegally does that give you the right to take it?
|
RE: State Land Stands
Call the Game wardens. Maybe they can leave thier cars and walk in to arrest or confiscate it. Course that means they can't make money writing tickets because your license is upside down in the holder.
Do not steal, you never know who you runb into walking out! |
